We love a themed wedding. There, we said it. But bear with us and give us the benefit of the doubt, because we don’t mean themed as in the dodgy guy who thought it’d be a hoot to plan a Willy Wonka wedding on that awful episode of Don’t Tell The Bride. We would have hot-footed it outta there quicker than you can say ‘Oompa Lumpah’. But a themed wedding that somehow manages to deliver some serious vintage vibes? Now that is right up our street. Here are four wedding day themes guaranteed to give you and your guests a day out to remember.
A Fairground Affair
If your vintage wedding dress is tea length, with a rainbow tulle underskirt and big, bright, bold blooms in your hand, the fairground wedding theme is a match made in heaven. String the bunting and festoon lights between the trees, roll-up roll-up for the candy floss and toffee apples, hook all the ducks and ride the ferris wheel in all your finery. The key here is colour, so make sure you paint your kissing booth bright and splash the cash on that merry-go-round. The only thing to leave firmly in the fairgrounds of your youth are the dodgy burgers and bootleg booze.
We have made no secret of our love of Studio 54 and we’re of the belief that you should never save your sequins just for special occasions. Glittering disco balls are the new pom poms, or so we hear, so polish yours and string them up aplenty. Your shoes will need to sparkle and never stop dancing, and a little outfit change here and there never did anyone any harm either. Also, we’re willing to give extra wedding planning points for confetti canons and personalised neon signs, too. We’ll leave it to you to decide whether you’ll be riding down the aisle on a white stallion, a la Bianca Jagger.
A Great Country Fete
Head out into the English countryside for a wedding complete with craft beers, cheese boards, family bake-offs and ploughman’s lunches. Rustic blooms and boho dresses are a must, whilst the bridesmaids can embrace all things floral. Speaking of floral, the wilder your flowers the better, and we’re all for showing off your sprigs in vintage glass bottles. Sit on straw bails, create a coconut shy and enrol a vintage ice cream van to dish up creamy Cornish ice cream to your guests; sprinkles and sauce obligatory!
Beside The Seaside
Is there a better backdrop for your vintage-inspired wedding than Brighton Pier? We think not and the only thing that can make it even better is to continue the seaside theme throughout. Think mini fish and chips wrapped in newspaper cones, serve ice creams and cream scones, and invite your guests to kick back in blue, red and white-striped deckchairs. When the midnight munchies kick in, paper bags piled high with red-hot chips, drenched in salt and vinegar, will be appreciated miles more than the usual hog roast.
And most importantly, once you have chosen your theme, don’t forget to speak to The Beauty Artist about the beauty look to match!
